Just Let Me Have This
"I hope everyone had fun this weekend," a woman was speaking to three others at an old hangout in the woods. "Everyone have your amulets ready?" The other women nodded. "Alright, then. Repeat after me," the first woman spoke several verses of an old script resembling Latin, and the others followed suit. With a bright flash, she and two of the others vanished and were replaced by men. The third woman simply reappeared where she was standing before.
"Woah Nathan," said the man who stood where the first women was speaking. He looked toward the woman who didn't change back. "What happened? That should have worked for all of us."
"It's nothing, Jack," Nathan responded. "Let's not make a big deal out of it. Why don't I just stay like this for a while. I'm sure it's fine."
"No, this is a problem," Jack replied. "If something went wrong, I need to look into it. Show me your amulet."
"Fine, just don't get mad. I uh, I did something." Nathan slowly opened his hand, revealing his amulet to be in several pieces.
Jack's eyes grew wide in horror. "Oh god. This is so bad. How did you break it!? It was virtually indestructible! Did you use a sledgehammer or something!? Give me the pieces. Maybe I can fix it somehow."
Nathan yanked his hand back. "Please," he nearly shouted. "Just let me have this. You knew I wish I was born a girl. The last few days were better than I could have imagined. I made a decision last night, and I'm never going back."
"No, you don't get it," Jack pleaded. "The people in charge are like the mafia. They won't let this go. If they find out you destroyed one of their amulets for a permanent body change, they're come after you. Like, the original you. They will kill your previous body just to make an example out of you."
