Mental Breakthrough (Part 2)

Julia's schedule had P.E. today, and the whole class was putting on a baseball game. Hector was fully locked in. He could see the insults coming a mile away if he didn't play well, so there was no room for goofing around. Nobody would be telling him "just cheer for the boys next time" or some such nonsense, not if he could help it anyway. He was going to win, and he would do it as a girl.

As he stepped up to the plate, he could hear sniffs and giggles from the in-field players. He clenched his jaw in anger. He squeezed his dainty hands around the bat, readying the muscles in his arms and shoulders for a full swing. He bent his knees and leaned forward as the pitcher stepped up, carefully eyeing the ball as it was thrown. When the time was right, he swung as hard as he could. Perfect impact. The ball went flying towards left field, a bit lower than ideal, only to hit the guy in shortstop square in the groin.

After a second's hesitation, he started booking it towards first base. His running form was weird. The shape of his pelvis meant he had to swing his arms side-to-side to stay balanced. Passing first base, he kept running. Nobody could stop him. Crossing second, he saw his teammate score a run to tie the game. Could he actually win this for the whole team? As a show of dominance, he jumped straight over the boy he accidentally hit with the ball. Rounding third, the boy finally got up and threw the ball towards home. It was going to be close. Hector raced towards the plate, sliding in at the last second as the catcher caught the ball. Safe! Not only did he get a home run, he actually won his team the entire game. Who said a girl couldn't do well in sports?
