Working Through It (Part 8)

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7

After going through corridor after corridor in a seemingly endless maze, Stanley had finally had enough. "Hello?" he shouted. "Is anyone out there?" He heard distant footsteps heading his way, until none other than the psychologist came around the corner to meet him.

"You? What are you doing here? Where am I? What is this place?" He took a second to think. The strange building he was in, the mysterious circumstances, it didn't add up. "You're not really a psychologist, are you?

"I- well, not really," he admitted.

"What do you mean, 'not really'?" Stanley asked the man. "That's a 'yes' or 'no' question. What the hell is going on here?"

"Let me show you. It will be easier to explain." He took him to a special room and input his code to open the door. Stanley was still in only his underwear, but was so bristled with rage he was feeling quite warm now. He walked straight into the room as the door slid open. He saw operation tables, computers, and strange devices mounted at the heads of hydraulic chairs. He immediately understood; this was the room where his brain was put into a woman's body.

"You're right in that this is not just some hospital," the man explained. "But we did save your life. The reason for your headaches now seems to come down to subconscious reconciliation. At the time of your procedure, we only had the body of the drunk woman who crashed into you. But her age is so different that you are mentally rejecting it more and more. When you collapsed, we knew the only solution was a more compatible body."
