Stranded in the Apocalypse (Part 5): Male Gaze
"Take a picture, it'll last longer," Cameron said when he saw Gabriel sneaking a peak at his ass.
"It might." He met Cameron's gaze. "Nice threads. Now let's go; we got a job to do."
Cameron started walking with Gabriel towards the perimeter fence. "I can't believe I got put on guard duty," he complained. "As if being a few minutes late for MY shift let some paramilitary force find the camp. You should have heard Mother Regina shouting."
"I've heard enough," Gabriel replied.
"Like I'm not even armed or anything, Cameron continued, ignoring the double meaning in that response. "I'm just walking around. And they have helicopters? What can I even do if there's an attack?" He sighed.
"...make a peace offering?" Gabriel said under his breath, looking away. Cameron first thought that was a snide remark, but there was disappointment in his tone.
As they left the gate, a thought popped into Cameron's head. "You know, I've been wondering what it is about 'the Great Mother Regina' that even holds this place together. This place has no strategic resources, terrible borders to defend, and all the women here are kept as breeding stock. You think you aren't also just one of her pawns? What makes you so loyal?"
"Do something for me," Gabriel implored. "Think about something you've always wanted. Something you know deep down you'll probably never get, and make it your life's ambition. Let that idea be what keeps you going, no matter what." Cameron was dumbfounded by the unexpected reply, but when he saw the horde of barbarians waiting for them, he understood the situation. "I'm sorry," Gabriel said to him.
